Bulky Waste Pick-Up

New service launching May 1, 2025!

Do you have large items that need to be disposed of, but no way to transport them to the Waste Diversion Loop or the Waste Disposal Site? The Town of Altona Public Works Department offers a Bulky Waste Pick-Up service by appointment.

You can purchase a Bulky Waste Pick-Up tag for $30 each at the Town of Altona Administration Office from Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 PM. At the time of purchase, your pick-up will be scheduled for the next available collection date. Up to 10 items can be collected per address during a single visit, but each item must be individually tagged. 

Eligible Items:

  • Household furniture, such as sofas, chairs, tables, etc.
  • Household appliances, such as refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, etc
  • Mattresses or Box Springs: must be wrapped in plastic for safe handling and disposal
  • Tires: with or without wheels
  • Barbecues
  • Branches: must be under 3 metres in length and bundled for easy access by the loader using forks. Each bundle must be no larger than 1 metre x 1 metre by 3 metres for easy and safe lifting.
  • Other: other items that are not specifically listed, and are not listed as ineligible.

Ineligible Items:

  • Items collected through the regular curbside waste collection, including recyclable items such as metals, plastics, e-waste, etc, or Regular yard waste (aside from large branches) 
  • Renovation waste: Any items resulting from construction or renovation activities (e.g., drywall, construction debris, flooring, etc) Construction bin rentals are available from H.P. Enterprises, MWM, etc.
  • Hazardous Materials & Used Oil: Paint, chemicals, fluorescent light bulbs, used oil, filters and coolant, etc. These can be disposed of at the Altona/Rhineland Waste Disposal Site free of charge.
  • Items without stickers: each item for collection must be visibly tagged with the Bulky Waste Pick-Up sticker
  • 10+ items: Staff will collect up to 10 individually tagged large items per address during a single service request
