Community Grants

Community Grants:

The Town of Altona supports the enhancement of a positive quality of life for all its residents. One means of achieving this goal is through the provision of grants to organizations that contribute to the general interest and advantage of the community. The Town also recognizes that supporting volunteer community-based organizations is often fundamental to maintaining this quality of life. This policy has been formulated to foster consistency with the awarding of grants to groups whose benefits and services are enjoyed by the residents of the Town.

Please review the Community Grants Policy. Community Grants Policy

Gretna Stars Rec Hockey

The Gretna Stars Rec Hockey program provides hockey options to those who cannot or chose not to play in Altona Minor Hockey.

Some children participate in rec hockey because their families may not be financially able to cover the high costs often associated with minor hockey. This grant helped cover registration fees and/or equipment upgrades to those in need.

Through their grant program, they provide much-needed financial assistance to families who may struggle to cover the costs of enrolling their children in sports programs.

In 2023, KidSport Manitoba helped over 220 families in Southern Manitoba with grants totaling just over $16,000. So far this year, more than 160 families have already received grants amounting to just under $10,000, with 25% of these going to families in the Pembina Valley. The grant received from the Town of Altona helped support kids in the Pembina Valley get off the sidelines and into the game!

Altona Minor Baseball

Altona Minor Baseball is a recreation sports program offering competitive programming for kids from 6-18 years old.

The funds received from their grant were used as a part of two projects for Altona Minor Baseball. Several major enhancements were made at Diamond 1 in the park along with replacing the netting on their batting cages.

The Gardens on Tenth

The Gardens on Tenth assists with the evolving needs of tenants through facilities, programs, and services and provides aid and support to help residents find and apply for financial assistance.

Their grant was used to update the Manor suites. Tenants who have moved from an older suite to a newly renovated one are very pleased with the upgrades, but more importantly, they appreciate the safety and accessibility improvements with the widened doorways, walk-in showers, and raised toilets. The removal of walls and carpeting has been especially well-received, particularly by those who use mobility aids. These updates are thoughtfully designed to meet the evolving needs of seniors, helping them to age comfortably and safely.

  1. “Deck the Halls” event where they partnered with the Gardens on Tenth for craft-making with the residents
  2. “Celebrate the Season” which featured snacks, activities, and pictures with Santa. During the cold months, they will continue to run
  3. Family Gym Nights in Altona & Gretna
