Designed by local resident Edward Vincent Arcenal in 2020 and unveiled in 2021, the Town of Altona Flag is full of symbolism of our community. The blue background represents the open prairie skies, trust, and confidence. The bright yellow of the sunflower represents the warmth and energy of the people of Altona, and the modern design represents Altona looking to the future. The ascending petals of different shapes and sizes represents the economic growth of the town, and the cultural diversity present within the community. Every person is Altona is important to forming the community, just as every petal is needed to form the sunflower image.
The Altona flag has been welcomed and embraced by Altona residents - and celebrated by others across the province and country! In 2022, Municipal World ran a contest to find Canada's Best Municipal Flag. Up against municipalities large and small from across Canada, we made it to the semi-finals, and were voted as one of the top four municipal flags in Canada. In 2023, the Manitoba Vexillological Association ran a poll to find Manitoba's Best Municipal Flag, and Altona won!
